My continuing edification (fiberglass edition)

We were witnesses to the birth of funk fiberglass yesterday, from its early origins as quicklime or limestone, to its transfer into super-heated furnaces for melting, then onto the cooling process to create the spindly filaments.

Ah, the concept of heating and converting glass into fine fibers.  Gotta love it.

It was another manufacturing job, much like the boat work from last week. Now if you had told me I’d have been in a fiberglass factory a few months ago, I would have been incredulous. I politely (but skeptically) would have responded “No.” Then I would have said, “Wait, how do you know the future?” Then I would have demanded to know the winner of this year’s World Series. I also would have accused you of being a socialist.

I mean, boat-building, sure. Landscaping, certainly. Catering, alrightee. A bit of writing, mos def. Fiberglass — never really considered it.

But the best part? We got to keep all the free fiberglass we could shove into our pockets! Just kidding. It was the lollipops.
